U.S. Supreme Court Rules In Birthright Citizenship Case

The Trump administration is being granted a partial stay for injunctions regarding an executive order aimed at ending birthright citizenship for some.

In a 6-3 vote, the Supreme Court ruled Friday that universal injunctions "likely exceed the equitable authority that Congress has granted to federal courts." The ruling was not on Trump's executive order itself. Trump's executive order aims to limit automatic birthright citizenship to children who are born to at least one parent who is either U.S. citizen or permanent U.S. resident. Twenty-two states have sued over the executive order.
