Miami, FL - Gamers in South Florida lined up for hours overnight to be among the first to purchase the newly released Nintendo Switch 2 console.
The excitement was palpable outside several stores, including the Best Buy near Northwest 17th Street in Miami and the GameStop location on West 49th Street in Hialeah, where lines stretched into the early morning.
Nintendo’s newest console made its long-awaited debut eight years after the original Switch launched in 2017.
Despite a higher retail price of 449 dollars, interest in the Switch 2 has been overwhelming.
The company expects the upgraded console to surpass its predecessor’s sales during its first year, targeting 15 million units sold by the end of March 2026.
The updated system introduces a range of enhancements, including a sharper display with a larger screen, faster processing capabilities, and smoother in-game visuals.
A standout addition is the new C button on the redesigned controller, which enables access to GameChat, a feature that allows players to communicate with others in real time while playing.
The service works in tandem with a built-in microphone and requires a subscription to Nintendo’s online service after an initial free period.
The original Switch ranks as the third best-selling console in history, behind only the PlayStation 2 and Nintendo DS.
With the Switch 2 now on the market, industry analysts will be watching closely to see if Nintendo can achieve similar long-term success with its latest release.
