Soundgarden members Kim Thayil and Matt Cameron have shared insights into the band's final album, which they are completing after a prolonged legal battle with Chris Cornell's estate.

The album, featuring Cornell's vocals, is described as an emotional journey for the band. Cameron noted the bittersweet nature of hearing Cornell's voice during the production process, calling it a "massive emotional roller coaster." He shared, "A lot of highs, a lot of lows. The highs are based on the fact that the music is seeing its light of day, it’s coming to life. Some of it feels like it could have been a new chapter in songwriting for the group, so that’s super bittersweet. But it’s been challenging to work on some of this music, soloing up Chris’ vocals and hearing that beautiful voice come through the speakers all on its own."

The legal dispute with Cornell's widow, Vicky Cornell, began in December 2019 over royalties and audio recordings. However, an out-of-court resolution was reached in 2023, allowing the band to proceed with releasing the final songs they worked on with Cornell.

Soundgarden will also be inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame on November 8th at the Peacock Theater in Los Angeles. The surviving members, including current bassist Ben Shepherd and original bassist Hiro Yamamoto, will perform alongside notable Seattle musicians such as Brandi Carlile, Heart's Nancy Wilson, Alice in Chains' Jerry Cantrell, Pearl Jam's Mike McCready, and Taylor Momsen of The Pretty Reckless. The ceremony will stream live on Disney+.

Cameron expressed that the inclusion of Seattle-based artists is significant, as it reflects Soundgarden's roots and identity. He added that Chris Cornell would have appreciated the recognition, given his continuous artistic evolution. The Rock & Roll Hall of Fame induction will also feature other 2025 inductees like Bad Company, The White Stripes, and OutKast.
