Silver Airways, a Florida-based airline, has ceased all operations as of Wednesday (June 11). The decision follows a bankruptcy restructuring effort, during which the airline's assets were sold to another holding company that chose not to continue operations. Passengers are advised not to go to the airport, and refunds are to be sought through credit card companies or travel agents.

Silver Airways has been a key player in regional air travel for 13 years, operating routes in Florida, the Bahamas, and the Caribbean. However, financial difficulties have plagued the airline, which filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection in December 2024. The airline's financial struggles were exacerbated by mounting debts, totaling nearly $400 million, and the repossession of aircraft earlier this year, leading to erratic flight cancellations in March.

According to Bay News 9, about 20 flights involving Silver Airways were canceled at Tampa International Airport on Wednesday. The airline had previously promised to emerge stronger from bankruptcy, but the financial situation proved untenable. The airline's assets, including its fleet of eight ATR turboprops, are now in limbo as the company shuts down.

The closure of Silver Airways leaves a gap in connectivity for several destinations in the Bahamas and the Caribbean, which were previously served by the airline. The future of the airline's assets remains uncertain, as the aviation industry watches to see if another carrier will step in to fill the void left by Silver Airways' departure.
