Governor DeSantis Signs Bill Banning Most Abortions After 15 Weeks

A bill that would ban most abortions in Florida after 15 weeks was signed Thursday by Governor DeSantis at a church in Kissimmee.

"We're here today to protect life," Governor DeSantis told a large crowd at Nacion de Fe Church. "We're here today to defend those who can't defend themselves."

The governor calls the new law that takes effect July 1 the most significant protections for life that have been enacted in the state in a generation.

"This is a time where these babies have beating hearts, they can move, they can taste, they can see, they can feel pain, they can suck their thumbs and they have brain waves."

Earlier this week a state judge signed off on a 24 hour waiting period for women seeking abortions after a seven year battle in the courts.
